Lanee Benson, LSW
Mediation Services Coordinator

Hi! Thanks for checking Shalom out! A little background on me: I was born and raised in Northwest Ohio, have been married for 12 years and have 2 elementary aged children and am very involved with my church. Working with and helping people is something that has always been part of who I am, which is why I went to college and majored in Social Work. I have worked at Shalom 10 years, primarily as the administrative assistant and am honored to now be the Mediation Services Coordinator.

I have experienced that mediation can be a powerful tool for working through conflict & change in our lives.  Many times, we want to avoid or run away from conflict, hoping it will just go away, but usually it doesn’t “just go away”.  I believe that when conflict situations become too much for us to deal with on our own, having a trained, neutral third party present to help facilitate conversations and help the parties really listen to each other and to express their needs and interests can make the difference for moving forward in a more positive way.  A mediator doesn’t to tell people what to do or how to do it, a mediator’s role is to assist parties in finding their way and coming up with an agreement they both feel comfortable with.  I also enjoy teaching conflict management skills and restorative justice principles to individuals and groups who are interested.  Some of my additional trainings include: Advanced Family Mediation Training, 16th Annual Emerging Issues In Mediation, 15th Annual Emerging Issues In Mediation Conference,  21st Annual VOMA Conference, Healthy Congregations Facilitator Training, and Truancy Prevention through Mediation Training.  I would be glad to talk more with you about our mediation programs and services, please call the office or email me.   I hope you have a wonderful day!
